Step Out of Survival Mode

"Step Out of Survival Mode"

The recurring discussion lately is Minecraft. I’ve learned more about Minecraft in the last few months than I ever wanted to. But my grandson enjoys it, so I am learning about it.  There are three game modes in Minecraft: Survival, creative, and adventure. As we were traveling to swim lessons a couple of weeks ago, my grandson asked me, “do you know what survival mode is Mamu?” I responded with “Honey, lately, I feel like I am in survival mode every day” His reply? “Yep”

There are days when it feels exactly like that. I don’t feel creative. I don’t feel adventurous. I feel like I’m just trying to survive, get the task done in front of me, and move on to the next. Life can be overwhelming, to say the least. But it can also be an adventure. The LORD wants us not only to have life but to have it more abundantly… not just survive, but thrive.  We are on the Greatest adventure but, sadly, we let too many things bog us down at times. I think even my 6-year-old grandson understands that. He is creative and adventurous but he is also shy, overly sensitive, fearful, and yes, stubborn at times, just like me, and so there are moments when it seems like he is just trying to survive. He struggles in different ways than I do but he still struggles. We all struggle.

We struggle with things that can bog us down and it’s like the game switches to ‘survival’ mode without us even noticing it. But as a Child of God, we are meant to Thrive. We have to face our struggles, head-on. No sticking our heads in the sand and pretending everything is perfect when it’s not.

Ephesians 6:12 tells us that we wrestle not against flesh but we wrestle against the rulers of the darkness of this world. That is why we need to always have The Armor of God on, the FULL armor. With Jesus in our hearts and the tools, He has given us on our minds and souls, we have the power to stand strong and remain standing after the battle is over. Even when we, ourselves, are the enemy that we struggle against. We weren’t meant to barely survive. We are conquerors through Him. When we feel discouraged and overwhelmed, we are able to seek His Face, His Strength, and His Peace. Whatever we are going through at this very moment, will pass. It’s a given.

Jesus tells us that He came so that we may have LIFE, but wait there’s more- He desires that we have an abundant life. Not materialistically. But spiritually. A life that Thrives in Jesus, can overcome any obstacle.  A life that thrives with Jesus can encourage those that struggle and need strength to step out of survival mode and enter the adventure mode full of excitement and confidence, knowing that whatever may happen, they are loved and cherished by you and more importantly by God.

Step out of survival mode and step into the adventure. Thrive!!! Not just survive!
