Psalm 59

 Psalm 59

June 5th, 2024

Psalm 59  was written at a time when Saul had sent some men to spy on David's house in order to catch him out to kill David. David struggled for peace from an enemy he would rather have been friends with. So, once again David begins by seeking The LORD.

Deliver me from my enemies, O God; be my Fortress against those who are attacking me. Deliver me from evildoers and save me from those who are after my blood. See how they lie in wait for me!

At this point, David had literally done no wrong. He loved The LORD. He served The LORD and served the king. But the king was jealous and acted out in anger.  David specifically asked The LORD not to kill his enemies; verse 11. He asked for justice and that his enemies' lies would be known throughout the kingdom. It's frustrating when you are wrongly accused and you can't do much about it. Even though the enemy were like dogs that prowled about the city, snarling and howling; searching for food, David chose to sing of The LORD's Strength. He chose to keep his eyes on The LORD. He knew in Whom He could Trust. "In the morning I will sing of Your Love; for You are my fortress, my refuge in times of trouble. You are my Strength, I sing Praise to you; You, God, are my Fortress, my God on Whom I can rely."

He is our Fortress; our hiding place. Though the enemy may be watching and waiting for just the right moment to attack, God is right there with us. He is our Fortress. He Delivers us from evil. The enemy can howl and snarl all he wants, we don't need to worry about it. Our Heavenly Father is standing guard, nothing and no one can get past Him.
