"Blessed Are The Poor in Spirit"
January 18th, 2023
Jesus saw the crowds of people there, waiting for Him, so He went up a hill and sat down. The disciples came and sat down next to Him. Then Jesus began teaching the people. He brought a message in that Sermon on The Mount that is better known as The Beatitudes- The Blessings. These Blessings are offered to those who strive to live their lives drawing closer to The Lord. They refer to the spiritual well-being of a Child of God that keeps focused on JESUS> And with a heart that stays focused on JESUS comes Blessings upon Blessings. Matthew 5
Blessed are the poor in spirit for
theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven.
Blessed are they that mourn, for they
shall be comforted.
Blessed are the meek, for they shall
inherit the earth
Blessed are they which do hunger and
thirst after righteousness, for they shall be filled
Blessed are the merciful for they will
be shown mercy.
Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall
see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall
be called the children of God.
Blessed are they which are persecuted for
righteousness sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven,
Let’s examine the first one: Blessed are
the poor in spirit for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
This is one of those scriptures that often
get twisted. This is not financial poorness or suffering. This is the spiritual
poverty of a believer; the keyword is spiritual. In other words, Blessed are those
who humble themselves and recognize that they need God, that they need a Savior
for they are the ones who will enter into His Kingdom. We are nothing without
JESUS. It’s ALL about JESUS>
Confidence is fine. But there is no room in heaven for arrogance. It takes a humble and contrite heart to recognize that it’s not about them, it’s all about Jesus, and without Jesus we are nothing. Every single time that one of His disciples even thought of being a little snooty patooty, Jesus reprimanded them, with LOVE but they still got a scolding. We are NOT all that and a bag of chips. KEEP your eyes upon JESUS, look full in His Wonderful Face.
Proverbs 16:18-19 “Pride goes before
destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall. Better to be of a humble
spirit with the lowly, than to divide the spoil with the proud.”
Humility is poor in spirit.
Tomorrow we will study the next one.
