Blessed Are Ye, When Men Shall Revile You

Scripture For The Day

 February 2, 2023

“Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.” – Matthew 5:11-12

When you are living for The Lord and sharing His Word every chance you get, people WILL insult you, and people will hurt you. This is what Jesus is telling us in verse 11. It is a given. People will lie and say all kinds of hurtful things about you, just because you choose to follow Jesus. Don’t be surprised when it happens. Expect it.  I personally have had to learn this the hard way.  It doesn’t bother me so much when it comes from an unbeliever but it’s when it’s a person that calls themselves a Christian. That one hurts. It’s then that my husband has to remind me once again, that people turned on Jesus. So who do I think I am that people shouldn’t turn on me? According to verse 11- when people do, not if, but when they do, know that great blessings belong to you. Verse 12- Be happy about it. Rejoice over it. Rewards are waiting. You have entered a special club along with the prophets of old.

Though this message was for all to hear, the main purpose of this message was for Jesus’ closest followers to hear. Jesus reminds us that we have Hope that no matter how much suffering we endure for His Name Sake we can know that we know that we know that we belong to Him and we will receive rewards for our faithfulness. For now, in our comfortable surroundings and outspoken opinions, we are able to share our faith at the moment without fear of serious reprisals. But back then and even in some places right now around the world, Christians did and do undergo cruel persecution for their Faith. And I fear that someday soon, right here in the good ole USA, we will find ourselves in the same boat. Don’t be surprised. Expect it. Keep being that Light on a hill for all to see. Do not conform to this quickly changing world but be transformed in His Light and through His Blood. Stand up for The Truth. Speak Life, Speak Love, Speak JESUS! And don’t be surprised when it’s not welcomed by all. It’s a given. JESUS told us this would happen.

We have finished with the Beatitudes but there is more to this Sermon on the Mount and it’s on my heart to continue studying Matthew 5. Stay with me as we explore this Sermon further. No greater message can be given than The One given by JESUS CHRIST>
