But Just a Few Days Later...
Scripture For The Day
Luke
19 part 2
"But Just a Few Days Later..."
When
Jesus was done speaking, He began to go up the road to Jerusalem. The road from
Jericho to Jerusalem was steep. Within 17 miles it went up 3,300 feet. We are getting
to the last part of Jesus’ Journey on earth. I don’t know about y’all, but this
study has spoken to my heart quite a bit.
Near
Bethphage, which is close to Bethany, on the southeast slope of the Mount of
Olives, Jesus sent two disciples, telling them to go and get an unridden colt
that was tied up and bring it to Him. Jesus knew where it would be. An unridden
colt was considered suited for holy purposes. Of course, they found the colt, just like
Jesus had said, and brought it to Jesus. They put their coats on the colts' back for
Jesus to ride on. As Jesus traveled into Jerusalem, people began to put their coats
on the ground before Him as well as palm branches. A worldly king would have entered the
same way. The people were recognizing Jesus as their king…for the moment.
The
crowd of followers began shouting and praising God with a loud voice for all
that Jesus had done, saying; “Blessed be the King that cometh in the Name of The
Lord; Peace in heaven, and Glory in the highest.” Some Pharisees in the
crowd were offended and asked Jesus to stop the people from speaking such blasphemy.
And Jesus answered; “I tell you that, if these should hold their peace, the
stones would immediately cry out.” ( I never want the stones to have to cry out
in my place)
Jesus
began to cry when He looked upon the city of Jerusalem. (oh, this breaks my
heart) Jesus knew what was going to happen. He knew Jerusalem would be destroyed
in just a few short years. “For the days shall come upon thee, that thine
enemies shall cast a trench about thee, and compass thee round, and keep thee
in on every side…”
As
soon as Jesus got into Jerusalem, He went to the temple. While there, He began
throwing people out that were using His House for things other than its purpose.
His Sanctuary is a holy place meant to be respected and cared for. Jesus taught daily in the temple. But the chief priests and the scribes sought
to destroy Him. But they couldn’t find just cause for the moment and knew the people
would revolt.
But
just a few days later…things changed.
