Luke 13 part 1

"Don't Get Cut Down"

Evidently, some worshipers from Galilee were condemned by Rome. They were killed in the temple by Roman authorities while they offered their sacrifice. Their blood was mingled with the blood of their sacrifice. Those speaking didn’t have much respect for the Galileans. Sadly, some of them even thought that the Galileans got what they deserved. Jesus began to speak. “Do you think this happened to the Galileans because they were more sinful than other people? No, they were not.” Jesus challenged His followers, including us to change our hearts and calls all of us to repentance. For all of us are in danger of sudden destruction or tragedy. This life is fragile. It can change drastically in the blink of an eye. Jesus knew about the rebellion and destruction of Jerusalem that would come 70 years after His death on The Cross so He encouraged the people to change their hearts for their time was running out. He cited another tragedy “Or those eighteen, upon whom the tower in Siloam fell, and slew them, do you think they were more sinful than those that live in Jerusalem” This is been one thing that drives me crazy. When tragedy or catastrophe hits a certain area, like the hurricanes in Louisiana or earthquakes in California, people, Christian people will stand up and say that is God’s judgment raining down on them. But what if a tornado comes through our area and wipes us out; does that mean we are more sinful than another town that was kept safe. NO! it’s not for us to speak for God but to share His Word and Shine His Light. None of us are exempt from tragedy.

Jesus told a story about a man who had a fig tree that was planted in his garden. He came looking for a fruit and when he found none he went to his servant. I have been looking for fruit on this tree for three years and I never find any. Cut it down! It’s a waste of good ground. But the servant answered “Master, let the tree have one more year to produce fruit. Let me dig up the dirt around it and fertilize it. Maybe the tree will have fruit on it next year. If it still doesn’t produce, then you can cut it down.

Oh, LORD, help us not waste the good ground that you have placed us in. Help us Grow! Help us Produce fruit before you dig us up.
