"For A Season"
I’m
going to start splitting some of these chapters up into morning and night
devotionals based on the events. There is a lot going on in these chapters. Let’s
not miss a thing.
This
morning we study Luke 4:1-15 The temptation of Christ.
“And
Jesus being FULL OF THE HOLY GHOST returned from Jordan and was led by the
Spirit into the wilderness.” Jesus had just been baptized by John and now being
full of The Holy Ghost, He was led to go into the wilderness for a purpose. The
purpose was to face the temptations in life that the rest of us struggle with. Yet,
unlike us, He remained sinless. For forty days, the devil blasted Him. and Jesus
fasted throughout those forty days so of course, he became very hungry just
like we would be. Forty in the Bible means “testing.” The devil began to taunt Jesus.
“If you’re the Son of God, turn this stone into bread.” As per Jesus’ usual
style, He responds with The Word of God. Through any adversity, you can never
go wrong by responding with The Word of God. “It is written, that man shall not
live by bread alone, but by every Word of God.” – refer to Deut 8:3
Then
the devil, took Jesus up into a high mountain and showed Jesus all the kingdoms.
And the devil said unto Him, I will give you all of this power and the glory
over them. If You will just worship me. And Jesus replies “Get thee behind me,
Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and Him alone
shalt thou serve.” Refer to Deut 6:13. The devil is a liar. He has no power or
authority to give anything. When sin entered the world through Adam, the enemy
was given a false sense of power.
Next,
the devil brought Jesus to Jerusalem and put Him on a pinnacle of the temple
and said unto Him “If You really are The Son of God, throw yourself off here...
for it is written, He shall give His angels charge over thee, to keep thee.” … what
nerve. Here we have the devil quoting scriptures back to Jesus. Refer to Psalms
91:10-12. The enemy knows The Word of God as well. He just doesn’t believe in
it. He thinks he has the power to change the ending. But Jesus answers him “It is said, Thou shalt
not tempt the Lord Thy God.” Refer to Deut 6:16
Whoa! That old devil had to have been angry
about that one. The devil went away defeated. he departed Jesus for a season. like the enemy does with us, he is strategic with his attacks. But even in the weakest moment in
Jesus’ life on earth, He is still stronger than the enemy. And Jesus returned
in the power of the Spirit into Galilee: and word of Who this Jesus was spread
throughout the region, and He began to teach in their synagogues. The people began
to Glorify Him.
