Luke 10 Part 1

Go And Do Likewise

After these things, Jesus appointed the commissioning of 70 other disciples to go out in two’s to preach The Gospel. Jesus told them the harvest was great and the laborers are few. Get busy. Go your ways. I send you forth as lambs among the wolves. It’s going to be tough because this world is cruel.” And it’s worse even now. Just like the original disciples, the seventy weren’t to carry anything with them and to be a blessing upon the houses they stayed in. If they aren’t welcome they are to leave and the blessing will go with them. Wherever they went they were to heal the sick and respect the customs. But again if they weren’t received well, they were to wipe off the dust and move on. Time is too precious to waste. And woe to those who reject them. It doesn’t say how long their mission lasted. But when they returned they were excited to tell Jesus all about it. That they even had power over devils by using His Name. Jesus began to tell them about satan and how Jesus was there when satan was cast down. There was no reason to be surprised. He gave them power over the enemy. And their names were written in heaven.

Jesus began to rejoice in His spirit over all the excitement and souls accepting Him. He began to Thank His Father and Praise Him for everything. He turned to His disciples and privately said “Blessed are the eyes which see the things that ye see” Prophets in the past would have loved to have been first-hand witnesses to what they were seeing. We, Christians today would love to have witnessed these events. I would love to go to Israel and walk the steps of Jesus.

A lawyer in the crowd stood up, to test Jesus and said “Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?” Jesus usually would answer questions by asking more questions “What is written in the law? What do you think?” The lawyer responded with scripture “Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind and love your neighbor as yourself.” Jesus said” You answered well, so do this, and you shall live” But the man wanting to justify himself said “And who is my neighbor?” Jesus began to tell the story of The Good Samaritan and told him to go and do likewise.

Everyone is our neighbor. Go and do likewise.
