No Prophet is Accepted in His Own Country

Scripture For The Day

 December 4th, 2023 Part 2

"No Prophet is Accepted in His Own Country"

And He came to Nazareth, where He had been brought up: and as the custom was, He went into the synagogue on the sabbath days, and He stood up to read as was the custom. He began to read out of Isaiah “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because He hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; He hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, to preach the acceptable year of the Lord.” He stops in the middle of verse 2. In those few words, Jesus is describing His own ministry. He closed the book, gave it to the minister, and sat down. Everyone in the room was watching Him. And He began to say to them “This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears.” They were confused; “Isn’t this Joseph’s son?” He says “Verily, I say unto you, No prophet is accepted in his own country.” One of the most difficult things to do is to preach The Gospel to your friends and family. They think they know all about you and refuse to get past that to recognize The Truth of God’s Word.

He continues to share examples of how many prophets were rejected in their own country. After hearing all of this, the people in the synagogue became angry. They rose up against Jesus and led Him out of the city, with all intentions of throwing Him off the cliff. But He passed right through their midst and went on His way. This was a miraculous escape that could only come from Jesus. It wasn’t time for Him to die. And the crowd was left standing confused and amazed for His Word came with Power. He traveled on to Capernaum, a city of Galilee, and taught them on the sabbath days.

In the synagogue, there had been a man, who was possessed by a demon, who cried out in a loud voice. “Let US alone, what have we to do with Thee, Jesus of Nazareth. Have you come to destroy us? I know Who You are, The Holy One of God.” You see, the demons know Who Jesus is. Jesus rebuked Him, “Hold your peace, and come out of him.” The devil came out and didn’t hurt the man. The people were amazed at the Awesome Power Jesus had. And His fame continued to grow. He left the synagogue and went to Simon Peter’s house. There Simon’s mother-in-law had a great fever. As Jesus stood over her and rebuked the fever; it left and she immediately, rose up and began to serve them. All over the city, Jesus was healing the sick, and devils were coming out of those possessed. By the time the day came again, Jesus had to get away to be alone and to be with The Father. But the people surrounded Him to keep Him from leaving. He told them, He had to go. His message was for everyone. And He preached in the synagogues of Galilee.
