"The True Reason for The Season"

The first chapter of the book of Luke is a lengthy chapter with 80 verses. I wanted to break each verse down like I do. But space and time wouldn't allow that. Luke begins by sharing when John the Baptist was conceived and how he was to prepare the way for Jesus. He also shares the birth of Jesus. Gabriel appears to the priest Zachariah and tells him that his wife Elisabeth was to give birth, in their old age, to John, who would prepare the way for Jesus. Many would come to The Lord because of John. Because Zachariah refused to believe, Gabriel struck him speechless. He would not be able to speak until John was born. The angel Gabriel also appeared to Mary and told her that she would conceive a baby through the Holy Spirit and give birth to the Son of God, Jesus. Mary quickly leaves to visit her cousin Elisabeth and discovers that all was true as Elisabeth’s unborn baby leapt in her womb at the voice of Mary. Elisabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit and prophesied to Mary the day in all authority. And they rejoiced together.  Mary was so overwhelmed with humility that she began praising God. – her song of Praise. Because with God nothing is impossible. Mary stayed there a few more months and returned home. We read about the confusion of the people regarding the name of John. And that how once the baby was born, Zachariah regained his voice and was filled with The Holy Ghost and began to prophesy.

Not long after that Caesar Augustus had sent out a decree that everyone was to be taxed. And that everyone was to go to the birth of their city. So, Joseph had to go to Bethlehem along with Mary with his espoused wife, who was now several months pregnant. Matthew 1 shares when Joseph was told by the angel about Mary being pregnant. Now on this journey, she was soon to deliver this baby. While in Bethlehem, Mary gave birth. She wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn. That same night there were shepherds in the field attending their flock. When the angel of the Lord appeared unto them, the Glory of the Lord shone round about them, and they were sore afraid. FEAR NOT, the Angel says. “For, Behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the baby wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.”

Suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God. Once the angels left, the shepherds ran and found Mary and Joseph and the babe lying in the manger. After seeing Jesus, they went everywhere sharing the GOOD NEWS. All the while Mary watched and listened and pondered it all in her heart. The shepherds came back, still Glorifying and Praising God for all they had seen and heard.

As I read and studied this chapter this morning, I was overwhelmed with my own emotions. How Blessed we are! He knew we needed a Savior and God sent His ONLY Begotten Son. Thank You Father for the Precious Gift of Your Son. Let us never water down the True Reason of why we celebrate Christmas.
