Luke 11: part 2
"Woe Unto You!"
Jesus
was casting out a demon that was making the man not be able to speak. After the
demon came out, the man was able to speak and the people were amazed. Some of
the people said, “He uses the power of beelzebub/satan to force demons out of
people.” And others wanted to test Jesus asking Him for a miracle from God. But
Jesus knew what was really in their hearts and He said “Every Kingdom that fights
against itself will be destroyed. And a family that fights against itself will
break apart. So, if satan is fighting against himself how will his kingdom
survive?” He goes on to tell the people that He uses the Power of God to force
out the demons. Whoever is not with me is against me. He shared the way an evil
spirit works. And it came to pass, as He spake these things, a certain woman of
the company lifted up her voice, and said unto Him, Blessed is the womb that
bare thee… But He said, Yea rather, Blessed are they that hear the Word of God,
and keep it.
The
crowd grew larger and larger as people came to see Jesus. He began to preach
again “The people who live today are evil. They ask for miracles or signs from
God. But no miracle will be done that will prove anything to them.” Sounds a
lot like the people of today. That’s why Jesus tells us that we need to be a Light
for Him. No one takes a light and puts it under a bowl or hides it. Instead,
they put it on a lampstand so that the people who come in can see. That’s our
job in this dark world. Shine The Light of Jesus for the lost to see. Shine The
Light of Jesus to encourage other believers.
As
Jesus was speaking, a Pharisee asked Him to dine with him. Jesus went in and
sat down to meat. The Pharisee was concerned with ceremony and noticed that
Jesus hadn’t washed before dinner. Jesus
told him “The washing you Pharisees do is like cleaning only the outside of a
cup or a dish. But what is inside you? You cheat and hurt people. You are
foolish! Pay attention to what is inside.
But it will be bad for you Pharisees because you love to feel important
and for people to show you respect. You are like hidden graves. People walk on
them without knowing it. One of the lawyers spoke up “Master, you say these
things about the Pharisees, you are criticizing our group also” Jesus answered “It
will be bad for you as well. You make strict rules that are hard for people to
obey. You try to force others to obey your rules. But you yourselves don’t even
try to follow those same rules. Woe unto you!” And as He said these things unto
them, the scribes and the Pharisees began to give Him trouble They tried to
make Him answer questions about many things so they could try and catch Jesus
into saying something wrong.
Woe
unto You!
