Three Humble Women

Image
Scripture For The Day   June 30, 2023 There are three different occasions recorded in which Jesus was anointed by a woman. Matthew and Mark record the same event. Luke and John each tell of a different time, with different women.  Luke tells us about a time in the home of Simon the Pharisee about a year before Jesus’ died on The Cross. Simon the Pharisee neglected to do what was customarily done for guests that came for a meal. A sinful woman hearing about Jesus eating at the Pharisee’s house snuck in and brought expensive perfume in an alabaster box- which was customary at that time to hold. She stood at Jesus’ feet crying. Then she began to wash His feet with her tears and dry them with her hair. She kissed his feet many times and rubbed them with perfume. Simon in all his arrogance thought to himself – “if this man were truly a prophet, He would know that this woman who is touching Him is a sinner!” But Jesus can hear our thoughts and used that event to teach Simon about forgive

Let Your Light Shine For JESUS

Scripture For The Day    June 17, 2023 Let Your Light Shine For Jesus  Getting prepared and pumped up for VBS I began studying more about what it means to Shine The Light of Jesus. The best place to look is always in His Word: Refer to Philippians 2:14-16 We live in an ever-increasing dark world. It’s so frightening and depressing at times when I stop and truly see the depths that the enemy is reaching and the ground he is gaining. It's heart-wrenching. This world praises and even encourages sinful lifestyles to the point that I have to remind myself that I am not of this world. Christians don’t belong here. We are just passing through. We have literally fallen into the rabbit hole in which things are topsy turvy; good is bad and bad is good. God tells us that we are not of this world but to be transformed. We aren’t to go along to get along. We are to be different. We are to be peculiar.  In Romans 13:12-14 He tells us that the night is almost finished. The day is almost h

Jesus Is The Light

Scripture For The Day  June 16, 2023 Jesus Is The Light  I’m going to switch gears from our study on the women in the Bible to our VBS theme. Next week is our VBS and unless The Lord changes my heart on it, I usually do a devotional based on our lessons. Today we are going to talk about the theme which is Shining The Light of Jesus. And oh how we need to be shining His Light! In John 3, Jesus speaks to Nicodemus, a Pharisee and member of the Sanhedrin. He comes secretly to speak to Jesus. He heard about all His miracles. He listened to His teaching. His heart was being tugged. But he struggled to get past the legalistic teaching that he was invested in. Jesus encourages Nicodemus with His Word. This entire conversation between Jesus and Nicodemus is meant for all of us and John 3: 19-21 is speaking to my heart today. The Light – JESUS has come into the world. But they did not want The Light. Many today do not want The Light. They pretend that their darkness is light. They choose

Will The Real Mother Stand Up?

Image
June 15, 2023 Will The Real Mother Stand Up? This morning I began studying the two women who were before Solomon. It was a tragic story. Both women, who were prostitutes, came to King Solomon for his wisdom. They lived in the same house and were both pregnant at the same time. They ended up giving birth to their babies within a few days of each other. Sadly, one of the babies died in the night. So, the mother of that child traded out babies while the other mother was still asleep. In the light of the morning when they were both awake, it became apparent what had happened. The other mother claimed it was all a lie: “No! The dead baby is yours, and the one still alive is mine!”. And they began to argue in front of the king. Solomon quickly stopped the argument by telling his servant to get a sword and cut the baby in two, giving each woman a piece of the baby. The second woman said “sure, go ahead, that way neither of us can have him.” but the other woman begged him to stop and s

Are You a Builder or Do You Tear People Down?

Image
Scripture For The Day    June 14, 2023 "Are You a Builder or Do You Tear People Down?"  Another one-liner. But, again, there is another bigger story behind it. In the genealogy of the Benjamites we learn a small tidbit about Sherah. Be careful how you read the scripture. At first glance, it looks as if her father is Beriah. But remember this is a genealogy list. (And his (Ephraim) daughter was Sherah, who built Bethhoron the nether, and the upper, and Uzzensherah). 1 Chronicles 7:24. So, it’s possible that she was actually Ephraim’s daughter. Either way, she was a descendant of Joseph. Within the genealogy, in 1 st Chronicles, there are thousands of men mentioned, but only 53 women are mentioned. This includes Sherah. But in this one verse, this one mention, we can learn a lot about Sherah. She built three cities. This was not what was expected of women at that time and she is the only woman in the bible listed as planning and building cities. She must have been brillian

He Will Never Be Torn Down

Image
Scripture For The Day   June 13, 2023 "He Will Never Be Torn Down" My husband has always taught our daughter that she can do anything that she sets her mind to. He’s told her to never let anyone tell her that because she is a girl that she can’t do any given task. While growing up, he gave her several tasks that would be considered by some to be ‘boy’ tasks.   She’s worked on vehicles, including semi-trucks. She’s done plumbing and various types of home improvement jobs. And because of that training, I believe she has learned that being a girl is no excuse to sit back and let others do what she can do herself. He has also taught her that there is no such thing as a ’ woman’s job. If a job needs to be done, he gets it done, including washing dishes, cooking meals, doing laundry…etc. We are a team and that’s how it should be. According to God’s Word, males, and females are to complement each other, not tear each other down. Back in the day, the Babylonians invaded Judah and d

I Am He!

Scripture For The Day  "I Am He!"   June 12, 2023 Oh man, aren’t we quick to judge others? But Thank The Lord, while others assume they know, Jesus knows better. He looks at our hearts and not the surface. I apologize for the lapse in devotions. My family and I have just returned from a 9 ½ day road trip. Though I am flat-worn out, I am so blessed for the time we got to spend together and the memories that we made. Today my heart turns to the Samaritan Woman at the well. Refer to John 4:7-29 Jesus and the disciples were traveling from Jerusalem to the south of Galilee in the north. It was customary for Jews to take the long way around and avoid Samaria. There was much prejudice going on there. But Jesus isn’t like that. He came for whosoever. Jesus insisted they go through Samaria. While the disciples left Him at a well to go buy food, a Samaritan woman came to the well during the hottest part of the day to get water. This was unusual, to say the least. But there was more
