Psalm 59

Psalm 59  June 5th, 2024 Psalm 59  was written at a time when Saul had sent some men to spy on David's house in order to catch him out to kill David. David struggled for peace from an enemy he would rather have been friends with. So, once again David begins by seeking The LORD.  Deliver me from my enemies, O God; be my Fortress against those who are attacking me. Deliver me from evildoers and save me from those who are after my blood. See how they lie in wait for me!  At this point, David had literally done no wrong. He loved The LORD. He served The LORD and served the king. But the king was jealous and acted out in anger.  David specifically asked The LORD not to kill his enemies; verse 11. He asked for justice and that his enemies' lies would be known throughout the kingdom. It's frustrating when you are wrongly accused and you can't do much about it. Even though the enemy were like dogs that prowled about the city, snarling and howling; searching for food, David cho

Psalm 56

Scripture For The Day  May 17th, 2024  "Psalm 56" -  David wrote this Psalm at a time when he was captured by the Gath; refer to 1 Samuel 21:10-15. He felt alone and desperate. Further study shows that the lyrics were possibly set to a Jewish tune called "The Silent Dove in Distant Lands" or "A Dove on Distant Oaks". I was curious about this and so I went down a rabbit hole trying to find this Jewish melody.  David was struggling in his spirit once again. This encourages my heart. David, the apple of God's eye, struggled in his spirit. and I gotta tell you, I struggle in my spirit from time to time.  Be merciful to me, O God: David was in danger by not only Saul but the Philistines as well. He cried out to God. "Rescue me. Save me. Help me." He appealed to the Gracious Mercy of God. It wasn't about what he may have deserved but it was about a Loving Father. David was outnumbered. Psalm 56:3 was one of the verses that the kiddos and I mem

Have You Lost Your Song?

Scripture For The Day  April 16th, 2024  "Have You Lost Your Words?" This morning as I was studying His Word and sharing with an individual I was reminded of an honest and real conversation the other day with a group of ladies regarding losing our song.  That doesn't mean losing salvation. Thank God there is no chance of that. We are kept in His Hands when we accept Jesus Christ into our hearts. It doesn't mean falling away.  But 'losing your song' means something else. It means struggle. It means the world is bearing down, heavily, on your shoulders.  I've always got a song on my heart and I'm so thankful for that. My eldest grandson gets tickled because I can turn any conversation into a song. But I understood exactly what my friend was saying. Because I have felt that way as well. For me lately, I feel like I have not only 'lost my song' at times but I have lost 'the words'. The 'word' to share what's on my heart any giv

This is The Day

Scripture For The Day  April 8th, 2024  "This Is the Day"  I woke up this morning with a heavy heart and a tad bit frustrated if I'm honest. So, I went to The One I always go to. I began praying and asking The LORD to speak to my heart and give me peace. Immediately Psalms 118:24 came to my heart; "This is the day which the LORD hath made; We will rejoice and be glad in it." I used to go to a church that this was our theme song. So, my heart began singing the scripture.  Every day is a blessing from The LORD. Every day belongs to Him. So, let us rejoice and be glad in it. You can speak all the Christianese there is to speak. You can tick all the "Christian" boxes but if you don't have love, if you don't have compassion, if you don't have understanding, you have nothing. Paul tells us all about that in 1 Corinthians 13. It doesn't matter how much 'work' you do for The Lord. Without Love and Patience and Compassion and Understand

God Sees You

Scripture For The Day  April 5th, 2024  "God Sees You"  "Feeling insignificant really hurts but regardless of our feelings, we do have real value. We are made in God's image; created for great things! Life chips away at our souls, but God sees us as priceless. So much so, that God sent His Only Son into our world to take away our pain and offer us a new start."  These words were in an article I read this morning and it struck my heart..."Life chips away at our souls".  Life can definitely bring us down at times. This world is going to hell in a handbasket and that's the truth. It breaks my heart for those that feel 'invisible'. I know how that feels cause I've been there myself. But we are so much more than the sum of our pasts. We are so much more than what people may think of us. We are so much more than what this world has to offer. We have been wonderfully and fearfully made by an Almighty Loving Creator and Father. We are loved so

Beauty From Ashes

Scripture For The Day  April 3rd, 2024  "Beauty From Ashes"  I was reading in Isaiah 61 this morning as I have done numerous times. But today it felt different. This passage is a beautiful picture for not only the mourning people of Israel but for all of us who have felt loss and hurt for whatever reason. Maybe it's not the loss of a loved one. Even though an unexpected loss is like no other type of loss. It can be difficult to see past the pain. But maybe you are struggling with a different kind of loss. Maybe you are struggling financially. Maybe you are struggling with your health; with your mind; with your heart. Maybe you're just struggling to survive. Everyone struggles. Whatever the loss. It can leave us unable to think straight. Our vision somehow becomes impaired. We try to do better. We try to see better. But we fail to see past our hurting hearts.  The loss leaves us feeling defeated. Maybe even rejected. But then there's God. Isaiah 61 is a reminder t
Scripture For The Day  February 27th 2024  There Is None That Doeth Good  Was David prophesying in Psalm 53? Because it sure sounds like the world today.  But no, David did prophesy in some of the Psalms but not in this instant. David looked around at the sad condition of men who refused to accept God. The fool says "There is no God". This is based on a moral standpoint and not an intellectual point of view. He was talking about those who rejected God, not those who didn't know any better.  A person who purposefully denies God will become corrupted. It's a matter of time. David says "There is none who does good, no, not one." There is still good in this world. But any good we do on our own is tainted by a sinful world. A child isn't born obeying their parents. It's taught. But you don't have to teach a child to be rebellious. That is a natural condition for a sinful world. People fight authority. People disrespect authority.  Rebellion is a comm
