Power Struggle

Image
Scripture For The Day  April 28, 2023 "Power Struggle"  Poor Eve. She has been blamed for the fall of man for thousands of years. When the truth of the matter is, it was going to happen eventually. It could have been you. It could have been me. The Bible doesn’t tell us how long Adam and Eve lived in the garden before succumbing to the temptation of disobedience and listening to the lies of the enemy. Who knows? They were provided everything in this utopia. No worries. No deadlines. No sicknesses.  God had recognized that animals alone were not going to be suitable companions for Adam. So, He created Eve to be Adam’s counterpart, his helpmeet, his companion, his lover, and his friend.  But sin entered in and because of disobedience, women have two specific curses brought upon them. 1. Painful childbirths, stress, and otherwise. 2. A power struggle between men and women, specifically husband and wife. And throughout the centuries women have struggled with this. And men

Eudoia and Syntyche

Image
Scripture For The Day   April 27, 2023 "Euodia and Syntyche"  I am studying the women in the bible alphabetically so next in line is Eudoia and today we study once again how women were many of the first to hear and accept The Gospel.  The Philippians church originated out of a women’s prayer meeting.  At this particular time, many believed in God but hadn’t accepted Jesus Christ as His Son. One day Paul shows up in Philippi at a women’s prayer meeting. And he begins to preach JESUS. During this prayer meeting, a woman named Lydia accepted Jesus that very day, and out of her home, the Philippian church began. Many women played prominent roles in the Philippian church. Among those women, we read about Euodia and Syntyche. These two women worked directly with Paul in the Philippian church. They were part of the original ministry team. But for some reason, they became upset with each other. The argument was bad enough that word was sent to Paul while he was imprisoned in Rome.

Let's Teach His Word

Image
Scripture For The Day    April 26, 2023 Let's Teach His Word  Today we are studying Eunice. But Eunice is just half of the story, we need to study about Lois as well. I think of these two Christian ladies quite often. First when I had my own child and then Lois became even more special to me when my grandchildren came along. My own grandmother was at the forefront of teaching me The Word of God and I desire to continue that legacy even more and pray that my grandsons will grow strong in The Lord. This mother-and-daughter Christian team made Timothy the godly man that he grew up to be. They were living Christian examples for their friends and family. And Paul was well aware of that fact. In a letter Paul wrote to Timothy, he acknowledges the godly teaching that Timothy received from his mother and grandmother and is thankful for them for laying the groundwork for Timothy’s faith. 2 Timothy 1:5 “When I call to remembrance the unfeigned faith that is in thee, which dwelt first in th

For Such a Time as This

Image
Scripture For The Day    April 25, 2023 "For Such A Time As This"  For such a time as this… Esther knew she had no other choice. Everything she had been taught, every step that had guided her towards this moment was for such a time as this. In order to save her people she had to put her fears aside and Trust in The Lord to be right there with her. Even if it resulted in her losing her life.  Back in the day, a queen had no authority at all. She had access to her King and might even influence his decision. But there were protocols to be taken. Rarely did the queens attend public events, unless the king, himself, requested her to be there. Because Queen Vashti became angry at the king and believed she was above the rules, she went against her king’s authority, which resulted in her being vanquished. With Queen Vashti out of the picture, the King was on the lookout for a new queen. He was advised to gather the virgins of the land so he could choose a new queen. These ladies we

With God Nothing is Impossible!

Scripture For The Day  April 24, 2023 Today we study Elizabeth- Luke 1. Elizabeth was the cousin of Mary the mother of Jesus. She wanted nothing more than to be a mother.  Back then women who couldn’t bear children were ridiculed and humiliated if they were childless. But Elizabeth didn’t allow her disappointments or the hatefulness of others to keep her from Praising God and He had an awesome plan.  Zechariah and Elizabeth were both good people who pleased The Lord. They did everything He told them to do. Yet, they still had no children. By this time according to Luke, she was too old. – Luke 1:7 One day an angel of The Lord came and stood before Zechariah and told him that Elizabeth would give birth to a baby boy and they were to name him John. John would be a great man for The Lord who would prepare the way for The Lord and be filled with The Holy Spirit. Zechariah questioned the angel because of how old he and Elizabeth were. And because of his disbelief, the angel, Gabriel,

Then Sang Deborah

Image
Scripture For The Day   April 21, 2023 "Then Sang Deborah"   Deborah- Now, here was a woman who was not only a servant for The Lord but a respected leader and her story can be found in the OT- Judges 4. The people once again turned away from God and began doing evil in the sight of The Lord. A bit like our own culture. Because of their disobedience, The Lord allowed His people to be taken captive and treated cruelly for 20 years. Only then did they begin to cry out to The Lord for help. This is when we first meet Deborah sitting under a palm tree which was a perfect symbol of her inner strength and divine calling. Her obedience to God was going to explode in fruitfulness. Though she was assertive she was humble in her love for God.   Deborah was not only a prophet of God; she was also the 4 th judge mentioned in the book of Judges and the ONLY female judge mentioned in the entire bible. She was a big deal. She was a military leader. She was a songwriter and a musician who

A Woman Named Damaris

Image
Scripture For The Day    April 20, 2023 "A Woman Named Damaris"  A woman named Damaris- another small one-liner. But a reminder that The Lord cares as much about men as He does women. I began this study because throughout the years I have had young ladies talk to me about their feelings of inadequacy and lack of value in the church, in the bible specifically. They have stated that through sermons or teachings, they have listened to that it seems as if women are of no value to The Lord.  Though, I have shared prominent scriptures that show the value of women. I felt the strong need to embark on a journey throughout the bible. Damaris was a prominent woman in Athens, Greece. She is mentioned as being in a small group of individuals that accepted Jesus into her heart under the preaching of Paul. Luke records this moment in Acts 17. While Paul sat waiting for Silas and Timothy in Athens, he became more and more upset as he looked at all the idol statues. He began talking with

Claudia Says to tell you Hi!

Image
Scripture For The Day    April 19, 2023 Claudia says to tell you Hi! Claudia- not much is said of her. Another one-liner. “Do thy diligence to come before winter. Eubulus greeteth thee, and Pudens, and Linus, and Claudia, and all brethren.”- 2 Corinthians 4:21. Paul is writing to Timothy. He is closing out his letter by saying that these people also say hi. It’s like the letters we used to write. “Mom sends her love” “Tommy says to tell you Hi!”  Paul specifically mentions these four individuals first because they were the closest to him at that particular moment in his life. This letter was the last letter written from his imprisonment while in Rome. He died soon afterward. Too many individuals have used Paul as an example to keep women behind the scenes. Claudia was counted among the closest of his peeps at this time in his life. She was a Christian woman that was devoted to helping Paul in any way she could. Paul specifically mentions her along with the other three, including al

Great Is Thy Faith

Image
Scripture For The Day    April 18, 2023 "Great Is Thy Faith"  Today we are going to talk about an unnamed Canaanite woman. Refer to Matthew 15:21-28 and Mark 7:25-30. Jesus’ response to this desperate mother feels hurtful and contrary to the loving Jesus we hear so much about. But again, there is so much more going on than what we first think. Here is a mother that has a daughter who is being tormented by a demon. “ Have mercy on me, O Lord, Thou Son of David; my daughter is grievously vexed with a devil.” But Jesus doesn’t answer her. And His disciples came to Him because she kept crying out over and over. They wanted Him to send her away. She was disturbing their plans, their peace. You see, she was not a Jew. She was not of their ‘family.’ She was considered unworthy and an outcast. But she was desperate. Her daughter was in imminent danger and needed help that only a Savior could give. So, she ignored the looks. She ignored the trembling in her body as she drew closer t

Let Us Be Encouraged

Image
Scripture For The Day   April 13, 2023  "Let Us Be Encouraged"  One verse, one mention of a sister in Christ, but to me, I see a bigger story. Paul begins a letter to Philemon. But he is not only addressing Philemon, he addresses our beloved Apphia in verse 2. A deeper study shows that this ‘beloved’ is translated to a ‘sister in Christ’. He goes on to address Archippus a fellow soldier. You need to remember that though there were synagogues for the Jews and pagan temples for the false idols, most of the churches for The Lord at that time were being held at individual houses. Sometimes even far away from the city in the outdoors. The Christians were being persecuted. They were being jailed and many were killed for The Gospel of Jesus Christ. The church is not the building but the people. And This ‘church’ was being held at Philemon’s house. There is not much said about Apphia and, yes, we could speculate who she was, possibly the wife of Philemon, since the letter is a do

Favored With Grace

Image
Scripture For The Day   April 12 th , 2023  "Favored with Grace"  Several women are listed in the Bible as having some sort of special moment with Jesus.  I love reading those moments and though it’s just a few short verses, her love and devotion for The Lord speaks volumes and encourages my weary heart this morning.   Refer to Luke 2:36-38 Just three short verses and what an impact her love has made on me. Anna was a prophetess. Her name literally means ‘favor’ or ‘grace’. I love that. At this point in her life, she was probably in her 80’s. She had been widowed for a very long time. Her husband died just seven short years from the time they were married. So, more than likely she was in her twenties when her husband died. But instead of marrying again, she devoted her life to God and the expectation of the coming Messiah. She was at the temple all the time.  She chose to spend every moment of the remainder of her life praying and fasting and worshiping God and ministerin

Assertiveness is NOT Aggresiveness

Image
Scripture For The Day  April 11, 2023 "Be Assertive Like Achsah"  It can be difficult for a woman to speak up. Chances are that when she does, she will be labeled a troublemaker or just another mouthy woman. But when it comes to The Truth we all need to speak up. God has given us the boldness, men and women alike, to speak The Truth.  We are to Stand True to God’s Word, regardless of what anyone else says about it. If we don’t, we will be held accountable for it one day. We need to stand up for ourselves. When I first got married I was quiet and passive. It concerned my husband so much to the point that he began to encourage me to think for myself and to speak up for myself. He says he created a monster. Lol Through the years I’ve learned the hard way that you have to be careful with who you are speaking to. Because of how people can be. The lady on my heart this morning is Achsah. She was Caleb’s daughter. You remember Caleb? He was given the important task of leading the pe

The Journey

Scripture For The Day  Originally posted on  April 12 th , 2022 "The Journey"  (Sorry for running behind) It’s important to me to take the steps every year, to travel if you will, the road that Jesus traveled the week before His resurrection.  Here is Sunday- Tuesday. It was a beautiful spring day. The city was crowded with people who had come to participate in the annual celebration. His journey would soon be over. (Though His Entire Life on Earth was all about His Mission, His walking Ministry had only begun just a short few years ago.)  He had spent many months traveling and teaching and doing what needed to be done. Now the time had come. It all came down to these last few moments. Before they entered the city, He had warned His friends that some things were going to happen that would be upsetting to them. But not to worry, this was what was meant to happen. As they approached the city, He sent two of His friends to get a donkey colt in a nearby village. He told them exac
